The symbolic way of learning knowledge is stored as words, mathematical symbols or other symbol systems. In the iconic stage, knowledge is stored in the form of visual images, such as diagrams and illustrations that can accompany verbal information (McLeod, 2008).
Because I used diagrams, pictures, and graphs of explaining certain math questions, I was using both the symbolic and iconic methods of learning according to Bruner's definition of the two.
During the lesson, scaffolding was also taking place. At first, I completely supported the students and walked them through all of the questions. As time went by, I let the students do more and more on their own, until eventually they were independent in solving the dosage and calculation questions on their own.
